Indirect Question คือคำถามแบบอ้อม ไม่ได้ถามตรงๆ ซึ่งเป็นคำถามตรงกันข้ามกับ Direct Question นั่นเอง วิธีการนำไปใช้ก็เพื่อต้องการทราบข้อมูลด้วยกันทั้ง 2 แบบนั่นแหละ แต่คำถามแบบอ้อมเป็นการถามแบบสุภาพนั่นเอง Direct Question  Who is that man? ชายคนนั้นคือใคร What time is it? เวลาเท่าไหร่ Indirct Question คือคำถามแบบอ้อม ประมาณว่า “คุณพอจะทราบไหมว่า…” “คุณพอจะรู้ไหมว่า…” เป็นต้น เช่น Do you know who that man is? คุณพอจะรู้ไหมว่าชายคนนั้นคือใคร Do you know what time it is? คุณพอจะรู้ไหมว่าเวลาเท่าไหร่

การใช้ modal verb + have 1. could have + V3 2. would have + V3 3. should have + V3 4. must have + V3 1. การใช้ could have + V3 ใช้เพื่อบอกว่าเหตุการณ์นี้ไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นในอดีต เพียงแต่เพื่อจะบอกว่าถ้า เราอยากให้เกิดขึ้น เราก็สามารถทำให้มันเกิดขึ้นได้ เพียงแต่เราเลือกที่จะไม่ทำ เช่น He could have graduated from high school if he tried harder. เขาสามารถจะเรียนจบม.ปลายได้ถ้าเขาพยายามมากกว่านี้ I could have fired you but I don’t want to. ฉันสามารถที่จะไล่คุณออกได้แต่ก็ไม่อยากที่จะทำแบบนั้น 2. การใช้ should have + V3 ใช้เพื่อ บอกเหตุการณ์ในอดีตว่าควรจะเกิดขึ้นหรือน่าจะเกิดขึ้นแต่ มันก็ไม่ได้เกิดขึ้น I should have brought an umbrella with me. (ฉันน่าจะเอาร่มมาด้วย) แต่ไม่ได้เอามา และตอนนั้นฝนอาจจะตกหนัก You shouldn’t have said like that. คุณไม่น่าจะพูดอย่างนั้นเลย 3. การใช้ would have + V3 ใช้เมื่อต้องการ บอกว่าเหตุการณ์นี้ไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นในอดีต แต่เกือบจะเกิดขึ้นแล้วถ้าไม่เพราะสาเหตุบางอย่าง ซึ่งต่างกับ could have ตรงที่มันไม่เกิดขึ้นก็เพราะเราเลือกที่จะไม่ทำให้มันเกิดขึ้น เช่น Tony would ...
