คำ suffix ที่ลงท้าย แล้วเป็น คน

1.-er เช่น teach (สอน) - teacher (ผู้สอน), sing(ร้อง) - singer (นักร้อง), drive(ขับ) - driver(คนขับ) *บางกรณีอาจจะแปลว่าเครื่อง/ ตัว เช่น cleaner(เครื่องทำความสะอาด) blender(เครื่องปั่น) heater (เครื่องทำความร้อน)  ส่วนมากแปลว่า คน แต่ก็มีบางคำที่ไม่เข้าข่ายเช่น liver, dinner นะคะ

2. -or เช่น doctor หมอ, mentor ผู้ให้คำปรึกษา, actor นักแสดงชาย, auditor ผู้สอบบัญชี, creator ผู้สร้าง, sponsor ผู้สนับสนุน, donor ผู้บริจาค

3. -ist เช่น scientist, artist, specialist, finalist, florist, biologist, stylist, vocalist, guitarist, cyclist (ส่วนมากจะแปลว่า -นัก.../ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ) ถ้าคำที่ไม่ได้มีรากศัพท์จะไม่นับรวมในกรณีนี้นะคะ เช่น list/ wrist/ twist 

4.-ian เช่น musician, magician, librarian, politician, Asian, civilian,electrician, technician คำที่น่าสนใจในกลุ่มนี้คือ vegetarian มาจาก vegetable ที่แปลว่าผัก กับ -ian ทำให้คำนี้แปลว่าคนที่กินผัก หรือ เปิดใน dictionary ก็จะแปลว่า มังสวิรัติ ซึ่งอาจจะฟังดูยากถ้าจะท่องจำ แต่ถ้าเราจำจากความเข้าใจคำศัพท์คำนี้จะกลายเป็นเรื่องง่ายไปทันที

5. -ant /-ent คำที่ลงท้ายแบบนี้เปลี่ยนไปเป็น -ence จะกลายเป็นคำนามที่แปลว่าการ / ความ หรือแปลอย่างอื่นได้อีก
เช่น คำว่า assist แปลว่าช่วย - assistant แปลว่าผู้ช่วย - assistance แปลว่า ความช่วยเหลือ
resident แปลว่าผู้อยู่อาศัย - residence แปลว่าที่อยู่อาศัย
participant (ผู้เข้าร่วม) contestant ผู้เข้าประกวด applicant ผู้สมัคร tenant ผู้เช่า patient ผู้ป่วย
*นอกจากนี้ ยังมีบางคำที่ลงท้าย -ent แต่ไม่ได้แปลว่าคน แต่เป็น adj. แทน เช่น different แตกต่าง, permanent ถาวร, innocent ไร้เดียงสา และถ้าเป็น ment ก็จะแปลว่าการ / ความ หรือคำที่ไม่ได้มีรากศัพท์ก็จะแปลแบบนี้ไม่ได้เช่น scent

6. -ee (มักจะหมายถึงกลุ่มคน หรือผู้ที่ถูกกระทำ) เช่น committee คณะกรรมการ, refugee ผู้อพยพ, trainee พนักงานฝึกงาน, employee ลูกจ้าง, trustee ผู้ได้รับมอบหมาย, conferee ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุม, nominee ผู้ถูกเสนอชื่อเข้าชิง

Have got (have/has + got) มีความหมายบ่งบอกถึงการแสดงความเป็นเจ้าของซึ่งเป็นคำนาม มีความหมายว่า “มี” โดย Have และ Have got มีความหมายเหมือนกัน สามารถใช้แทนกันได้ในประโยคบอกเล่า
